This 13,500 s.f. Fire Station can be categorized as having three components; office functions, living quarters, and apparatus bays. The first component includes accomodations for the reserve Emergency Operations Center of the City, a training room for 25 people, breakout room and offices. The second component, the living/sleeping quarters, is designed to accommodate 5-7 firefighters and battalion chief. The two story design separates the living area from the sleeping area and is designed to reduce response time by minimizing the corridor lengths. The third component, the apparatus bays, are designed to accommodate three fire apparatus bays and space for the battallion chiefs vehicle. The apparatus bays are provided with clear story windows to bring natural light into the bays. The building is designed to reflect the characteristics and detailing of traditional buildings constructed the early 1900's. The use of brick veneer and brick corbelling reflects the character of the older downtown Littleton area. The red apparatus bay door is a traditional detail found on many older Fire Stations . |
